GIGGLE NOTES / INTERNET FIELD NOTES
Why we send memes instead of saying 'I miss you'
A tiny picture can carry an unreasonable amount of affection.
The low-pressure hello
A meme arrives with no demand for a perfect reply. It says: this made me think of you, and here is a small door back into the conversation.
Shared language
The best inside joke is a little shortcut through a whole history. It can compress a road trip, a disastrous cake, and one extremely specific dog into a single image.
Keep sending them
A kind internet can be built from tiny gestures. Send the ridiculous picture. Add a sentence. Let someone know they crossed your mind.
Small things count. So does sending the silly picture.
